How to be a green goddess..

Hello everyone..
I just like to share these tips from
Mar-Apr 2010 issue of Look Magazine.

Stylish, eco-conscious ways to get gorgeous,
and still protect Mother Earth.

1. Single-use cotton and sponge pads may be handy, but they also reportedly clog landfills. Consider removing makeups with a washcloth made from organic fibers. This can gently exfoliate even the most sensitive skin.

2. Save water. Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth and save 10,000 liters of water a year. You can also conserve water by exfoliating dry skin before you get under the shower. Tip: dry brushing helps get rid of cellulite too.

3. It will take two trees 10 years to absorb the carbon dioxide you create by blow-drying 10 minutes a day for just one year. To lessen the drying time, use a fast-absorbing towel like Aquazorb, then air-dry hair almost completely.

4. Opt for containers that limit solid waste when tossed. Recyclable, biodegradable packaging is best. You can also opt for refills available in most supermarkets for shampoos and conditioners, instead of grabbing a new bottle with every purchase.

5. One way to create less waste: use every last drop of cream and lotion. A lip brush can get every last swipe out of your favorite lipstick, while storing a bottle upside down will finish up every last drop of body lotion.

6. Go natural. Choosing natural products over chemical-based ones can really do help eliminated skin allergies. Carefully examine the labels. Here are some common toxic ingredients you want to steer clear of:
  • Butyl Acetate
  • Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)
  • Coal tar
  • Cocamide DEA/Lauramide DEA
  • Ethyl acetate
  • Formaldehyde
  • Fragrance
  • Parabens (methyl, ethyl, propyl, and butyl)
  • Petrolatum (petroleum jelly)
  • Talc
  • Toluene
  • triethanolamine (TEA)

7. Less is more. A simpler beauty routine will reduce the number of chemical you are exposed to. Opt for a multi-purpose products that can work on eye, cheeks, and lips.

8. Use your legs whenever you can - this is the most ecological form of transport for short distances.

9. Eat less meat. You may be surprised to find out that 18% of human-generated greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions come from the livestock industry. You don't have to become a vegetarian; just try to have one meat-free day a week.

_______

There you have it.
These are only some of the tips that the author gave.

I was surprised that most of the cosmetics that I use
contained those toxic ingredients.

Good Day ! :)
